And so it begins...

So today is Easter... new beginnings, new life... my daughter has encouraged me to begin this blog... something tonight just told me it's time... I'll share my quest for life without sodium while trying to support local business in Austin Texas. To remove sodium from our world is a new challenge for me, and for my husband. More tomorrow, it's been a long day. Sweet dreams...

Hi.

I just want to thank you for your blog. Comparing to the health problems you describe for your husband, I - knock-on-wood - am very healthy. And I aim to keep it that way which is what led me to your site.

My father - ironically with a research interest in health-effects from sodium - died from congestive heart failure just over ten years ago. That after years of ignoring his blood pressure until it was too late. I just turned 50, am very much a copy of my father, and from a series of BP test (dentist, doctor, the machine at the drug store) realized that I am ... or hopefully ... was heading the same direction. Except I am not going to ignore it. Sodium out!

It is alarming how much sodium is out there. If I eat lunch out, I can predict my next-day BP. It will be high.

And I did the same as you: threw out bag-fulls of prepared foods. Even the "healthy" stuff is suspect. I bought a loaf of "heart friendly" bread. I guess heart friendly because it contained oats. However, the sodium was well over 100mg per slice. That's nuts.

I could soap-box forever. That was not my intent. Just a thanks and encouragement to keep up the good work. And I sincerely hope that your diligence will give y'all good health.
